Welcome back to another edition of SoleStats Dash. Today, we are breaking down the latest update to one of the most iconic silhouettes in running history: the Nike Pegasus 42.

Known as the “workhorse with wings,” the Pegasus remains the gold standard for a versatile, neutral daily trainer. Whether you’re hitting a morning 5K or logging long weekend miles, the 42 is designed to handle it all.

The Fast Facts

  • Weight: 10.5 oz (Men’s) | 8.6 oz (Women’s)
  • Drop: 10mm (37mm heel / 27mm forefoot)
  • Price: $145
  • Comparables: Mount To Coast R1, Puma Velocity Nitro 4

A Breathable, Better Fit

The first thing you’ll notice is the updated mesh upper. It is lighter and significantly more breathable than version 41, making it ideal as we head into warmer spring and summer miles.

Perhaps the most requested update: the toe box is now wider. You get that extra wiggle room for natural toe splay without sacrificing the secure, locked-in feel through the midfoot. Paired with a very solid heel counter, this shoe offers a reliable, stable fit from the moment you lace up.

Major Midsole Upgrades

While the Pegasus 42 continues to use the plush and responsive full-length ReactX foam, the internal geometry has shifted for the better.

In version 41, Nike utilized an Air Zoom unit specifically in the forefoot. In the Pegasus 42, Nike has moved to full-length Air Zoom. This change creates a much more consistent feel throughout your entire gait cycle. By smoothing out the transition from heel to toe, Nike has managed to increase energy return by 15% compared to the previous model.

Outsole & Durability

Nike hasn’t skimping on the traction, either. The 42 features full rubber coverage along the entire perimeter of the outsole. With strategic placement in the heel and forefoot, this shoe is built to withstand high mileage while providing excellent grip on various road surfaces.

Available Now!

The Nike Pegasus 42 officially launched on April 9th. You can find it in both men’s and women’s sizing at all Charm City Run locations.

Stop by your local shop, hop on the treadmill for a test run, and see why the Pegasus remains a staple in every runner’s closet!
