Welcome back to another edition of Sole Stats Unboxed! Today, we’re cracking open a very special delivery from our friends at HOKA.

Right out of the gate, HOKA nailed the presentation. The box itself is a work of art, featuring a reflective strap and their bold new slogan: “Faster Every Day.” They even tucked in a sweet HOKA belt bag—consider that an immediate win.
But we know why you’re here. Let’s talk about the shoe that is about to become your new favorite speed partner.
First Impressions: Light, Snappy, and Bold
The Mach 7 continues its legacy as a max-cushion daily trainer, but don’t let the “daily” label fool you. This shoe is purpose-built for your faster-paced efforts. If you have tempo runs, progression sets, or track intervals on the calendar, this is the tool for the job.
I took these for a spin on the in-store treadmill and a few strides outside, and I was honestly blown away. It feels every bit as fast and snappy as HOKA claims.

The Upper: Built for Speed
HOKA is using a creel jacquard mesh upper that is incredibly light and breathable. The standout feature here is the “speed-centric” tongue. It’s gusseted on both sides, super lightweight, and lays perfectly flat against the foot—meaning zero hot spots when you’re cranking up the pace.
The Weight:
- Men’s: 8.4 oz
- Women’s: 7.2 oz
The Midsole: Supercritical Energy
The magic is in the foam. HOKA introduced a new supercritical foam that focuses on two things: softness and rebound.
Compared to the Mach 6, this version isn’t quite as pillowy-soft, but that’s by design. It is significantly more responsive. You get a firm, energetic “pop” off the pavement that makes holding a faster pace feel effortless.
The Specs:
- Men’s Stack: 37mm heel / 32mm forefoot
- Women’s Stack: 35mm heel / 30mm forefoot
- Drop: 5mm
The Outsole: Grip Where It Counts
HOKA put a lot of thought into the rubber placement. They’ve utilized durabrasion rubber in the heel for longevity and sticky rubber in the forefoot for maximum traction when you’re pushing off.

The Verdict
If you haven’t run in the Mach in a few years, now is the time to come back. It competes head-to-head with some of the best uptempo trainers we’ve seen this year, like the Saucony Endorphin Azura and the Puma Deviate Nitro 4. It’s a versatile, high-energy trainer that proves you don’t always need a plate to go fast.
