Hey everyone, it’s Jared! On today’s edition of Sole Stats Unboxed, we’re diving into a special package from our friends at Salomon. The box is open, the tissue paper is out, and we are officially looking at the brand-new Salomon Aero Glide 4.

The Aero Glide 4 is a max-cushion, neutral daily trainer designed to handle the full spectrum of your training—from snappy track workouts and up-tempo miles to your longest weekend runs.

Let’s break down the specs from the top down.

The Weight & The Feel

Salomon managed to keep this max-cushion ride impressively light.

  • Men’s: 9.2 oz
  • Women’s: 8.2 oz

A Completely Overhauled Upper

Salomon didn’t just tweak the upper from version 3; they completely reimagined it. The Aero Glide 4 features a 3D engineered mesh paired with their signature SensiFit construction.

The SensiFit Secret: The goal is a “second skin” feel. It securely cradles the heel, locks the midfoot in square, and keeps you comfortably centered over the platform.

The mesh is highly breathable through the forefoot and midfoot, while the heel collar remains sturdy for a secure lockdown. Plus, for those early morning or late evening miles, they’ve added reflective elements on the forefoot, laces, and heel to keep you visible.

The Midsole: More Bounce, More Energy

This is where the magic happens. The Aero Glide 4 features a massive stack height: 42mm in the heel and 34mm in the forefoot, resulting in an 8mm drop.

The engine of this shoe is Salomon’s supercritical TPU foam, called optiFoam². If you liked version 3, you’re going to love this—the foam feels even more lively and responsive. It delivers plenty of energy return and works perfectly with Salomon’s Reverse Camber geometry (their signature rocker) to transition you quickly through your stride. To balance out all that bounce, a broad base adds a layer of inherent stability to every step.

The Outsole: Grip That Lasts

Ending with the bottom of the shoe, Salomon uses a strategic combination of exposed optiFoam² and extensive Contagrip® rubber coverage. You’ll find the rubber in all the high-wear areas—specifically the midfoot, forefoot, and the entire radius of the outsole—ensuring you have traction that lasts as long as the cushion does.

The Verdict

At $160, the Salomon Aero Glide 4 is a top-tier contender in the max-cushion category. It’s a versatile, bouncy, and incredibly comfortable trainer that is ready for whatever your training plan throws at it.
