Coach: Katherine Gavin

Katherine has been a member of the ultra-trail-running community for almost 25 years, but only recently as a participant. She supported many friends and family as a long-time cheerleader, volunteer, and crew. With a lofty goal to complete a 50K for her 50th birthday, she joined the CCR Timonium Ultra Trail training group for the 2021 HAT Run 50K.

The training group not only provided the plan, support and confidence to complete that 50K, but the camaraderie, friendship and inspiration to embark on a shared challenge. Over the next three years, with CCR training groups, Katherine completed seven 50K’s, a 100K and her first 100-mile trail race.

Katherine views coaching as a way to help new trail runners discover the joys of nature and “conversational pace”, offer a fun and rewarding season to veteran ultra-runners, and support anyone wishing to achieve (otherwise impossible) goals with the right plan, approach and attitude.

All groups will provide virtual training resources, but if you would like to sign up for the totally virtual training option, please select that in the drop down below when registering.

Description

At Charm City Run our goal is to safely train runners towards reaching their goals of finishing your first ultra, achieving PR and everything in between. The power of the group atmosphere makes the journey fun and enjoyable while encouragement from your coaches makes the long runs much easier.

Each group will meet twice a week for 16 weeks for runs and learn about hydration, trail running, easy runs, recovery runs, hydration, nutrition, injury prevention and much more along the way. Weekday runs will consist of hills and track workouts. Weekend morning runs will be trail runs at local parks, unless weather forces us to stay on the roads.

The groups will be targeting Rocky Gap 25K, 50K, Relay Trail Run on Saturday, October 13th or the Patapsco Valley 50K on Saturday, October 19th, or any other race within that time frame

Requirements

To safely meet your goal of the 50K, we do ask that you have completed at least one marathon distance and have a strong base level of trail running under your belt. Trail running experience is a plus. Are you not sure if you meet these requirements? Don’t worry, ask the coach at your location on the information night.
