Chad Boyle
When Chad was 8 years old his physical education teacher, Ms. Lawson called his dad and told him to take Chad to a 5K. So he did, the Garrons Furniture 5-K near Bel Air, MD. It was so hilly. He walked once, until a man came upon him and told him to keep going. So he did. And he has yet to stop.
Since then Chad ran on teams at C. Milton Wright High School in Maryland and UMBC, and has run 7 marathons, including thriving in the cold and windy conditions of 2018 Boston to run 2:51:02 and place Top 50 in the masters’ category and followed that up with a 1:16:24 performance at the Philadelphia Half Marathon in the Fall of 2019.
But his love of the sport has shown most through coaching. In 1997 he was asked to “substitute” as a coach at Dulaney High School in Timonium, Maryland. He coached there for 23 years by mistake. Oops. During his time there the team amassed 3 Maryland State Cross Country Titles and finished 2nd a record 17 times. But if you know Chad, every day is about the journey and helping people to use running to make themselves better people and enrich their lives. The sport is too much fun to place a dominant focus on the outcomes of races.
Chad joined Charm City Run in Timonium as the marathon coach in 2019 and coached there through 2022 working alongside Cristin Bubert to mentor over 75 different athletes and help them achieve their running goals. In 2023, Chad moved onto a new challenge leading the development of training groups at the new Rehoboth Beach store in Delaware. Since 2023 and a half marathon group of one (Shout out Angel Berrocal!!!) Chad has worked with Store Lead Erin Cecil to grow the Rehoboth Training Groups and recently was named, along with Erin, to lead the Dogfish Brewery/Charm City Run Club in Rehoboth.
For his day job, Chad is a 25-year high school teaching veteran, and currently teaches civics and history at Parkside High School in Salisbury, MD, Home of the RAMFAM. He also started and leads the school’s Mock Trial team and consults the running programs from time to time.
As your coach you’ll probably hear him say “Hold your potato chip!” and “Let the run come to you” and of course “Run with Passion.” His favorite race is the Cherry Blossom 10-miler and he credits his father, Tom Boyle and long time coach, Murray Davis for helping him develop his coaching skills.
