Susie Menz Snyder
Susie began running competitively at age 15 when she joined the boys track team at her high school on Long Island, NY. At age 17, her high school track coach recruited her to assist him in leading a youth track clinic over the summer through the local recreation department. Upon attending college at West Virginia University, Susie pursued running, primarily as a middle-distance runner, on the Division I Women’s Track and Cross Country Teams while obtaining a BS and MS in Recreation and Parks. While at WVU, she won the Red Brown Award for the highest academic achievement by a Junior student-athlete.
Throughout her career in Recreation and Parks, Susie continued running and racing on the roads in distances from 4K to the marathon, often placing as a top overall or age group winner in the shorter distances up to 10K. She briefly coached at NY Road Runners clinics, as well. Susie was introduced to Masters Track and Field while training with the Westchester Track Club in NY. She has competed and medaled at top 3 places in USATF National Masters Indoor and Outdoor Championships in distances from 400 meters to 5000 meters.
While working as Superintendent of Recreation in Greenwich, CT, Susie started a youth track clinic at the department with the help of volunteers of the Greenwich Road Runners Club. Susie co-led and coached in the program for several summers. Susie’s passion for running and competing has not waned over the years, and she has a great desire to help others engage in the sport which has given her great joy.
