Over the last 6 years, I’ve completed 17 marathons, including my April 2023 bucket list race – Coastal California’s Big Sur Marathon! And, by the end of 2023, God willing, I will complete marathon #20.

However, before 2014, outside of a tennis court and soccer pitch, I had not even run around the block. This all changed in 2014, when, inspired by my diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis, I ran my first 5K to raise money for MS research. It was the Annapolis Beer Run at the fairgrounds. A very fun race, but still a legitimate 3.1 miles. I was hooked and have been running ever since!

In addition to the 17 marathons, I’ve run numerous 5K, 10K, 10 miler and half marathon races since running that first 5K back in 2014. A friend recently asked me why I run so much – the answer is both to calm the noise and for the enjoyment of movement.

I am the mother to three teenagers, and one is leaving the nest this Fall. While my kids were in elementary school, I coached their Hero Boys and Girls on the Run teams for Windsor Farm Elementary. I thoroughly enjoyed watching all of the children reach their goals and finish their first 5K races. It was very rewarding to see their smiles and knowing what that finish line feeling can do to lift you up.

I am excited for the opportunity to once again help others hit their goals, reach that finish line, and enjoy all of the physical and mental benefits recreation running provides!

Description

Are you planning to a fall  Half Marathon this October? Or another half marathon around the same time? This half marathon program is open to everyone from the runner attempting their first endurance event to the repeat competitive runner. Training can be individualized to your experience and goals. The program will prepare to race your best – whether you’re new to long distance running or a seasoned half marathoner.

The group will meet twice a week from July through the end of September – once a week for speed workouts and once a week for long runs. Your expert coach will also provide you with a weekly training plan that will guide your preparation for your target half marathon. Along the way you’ll learn about about increasing your mileage, tempo runs, track workouts, hill workouts, recovery runs, nutrition, hydration, injury prevention, and much more.

Our fall half marathon training will start on July 20th and train through October 19th, so you can train for a race within that month. Your coach will be able to adjust your plan to meet your goal race.

Requirements

To safely meet your goal we do ask that you have a base level of running under your belt before joining this group. What does that mean? We ask that at the beginning of the program you are able to run/walk 3-4 miles at one time and are currently running 10-15 miles per week. This does not mean you need to be able to run the entire way but just that you are comfortable covering that distance. Are you not sure if you meet these requirements? Don’t worry ask the coach for you location. You will be surprised that most people meet these requirements and are able to join the group.

What To Expect

  • Supported group runs and workouts twice a week with planned routes, hydration and companionship
  • Positive and welcoming atmosphere for runners and walkers of all levels

  • Weekly training plans – beginner and intermediate options

  • Access to expert coaching services and advice

  • Gait analysis with footwear recommendations

  • 10% store discount at Charm City Run

  • 15% off Charm City Run signature races
  • Nutrition, gear and injury prevention education

  • Altra training premiums
