A Baltimore native and graduate of NDP and University of
Maryland in College Park, Deirdre bought her first pair of shoes from
Charm City Run while home visiting Baltimore from her job training
dolphins in the Florida Keys. She returned to Baltimore to train
dolphins at the National Aquarium in 2005 and became a part-time
employee and full-time member of the Charm City Run family soon after
when she stopped in to replace her shoes. She had taken up running in
college as means of staying in shape and getting outside.
Over the years of involvement with CCR she has been committed
to the Charm City Run energy and passion for the running community and
she is a well-known face at local events. Her mom is possibly one of
the store's most frequent customers. In the Fall of 2009 she began
running with and eventually coaching for Back on My Feet, a "nonprofit
organization that promotes the self-sufficiency of those
experiencing homelessness by engaging them in running as a means to
build confidence, strength and self-esteem." Charm City Run has
supported BoMF since it first expanded to Baltimore. Deirdre loves
running downtown and working with runners of all backgrounds to achieve
their goals.
After 10 years in dolphin training, Deirdre is thrilled to leave one
passion to pursue another and help Charm City Run expand to the new
downtown location as the store manager and coach of Charm City Run full
and middle distance training groups. Deirdre is an avid runner,
learning-to-be-triathlete, and has competed in most local 5K to marathon
distance races as well as the New York Marathon, Poconos Half-Ironman,
and will soon complete her 1st ultra marathon at the Fire on the
Mountain 50K.
Whether you are
thinking about training for your first 5k, you're an advanced
marathoner, or just out there for fun, stop by the store to see Deirdre
