On 9/11 every year I wanted us all to be good to each other and really good to the men and women that would be willing to put their lives on the line every day. This was the driving motivation but we also wanted to make sure to always remember the victims and to raise money for our departments that have been strapped under the weight of shrinking budgets and higher demands. I had no idea if we could pull it off but I thought it was worthwhile. It was worth my best effort. The Baltimore Police and Fire Departments deserved it and those New York families deserved it so I went to work.
Congratulations to Nicholas Boogades and Caroline Wilcox, the winners of this year's Amy Schuerholz Metz and Charm City Run Scholarship. Nick and Caroline embody both Amy's love of running and Charm City Run's mission statement: "to inspire and move the human spirit, one sole at a time." We are proud to award them with these scholarships and look forward to seeing the amazing things they accomplish, both on and off the track.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of heading down to WPOC at The Rotunda to hang with avid runner & DJ Jeff St. Pierre, CCR owner Josh Levinson and BWC and Cancerve founder Laurie Amatucci. I was simply there to coordinate logistics and merely a fly on the wall while the other three chatted Mercy Baltimore Women's Classic 5K for Maryland Today which airs on WPOC, WZFT and WQSR.
Its been a great first 15 years filled with lots of memories...some funny, some sentimental but all filled with sole. There's never a boring day at Charm City Run and that makes for a lot of memorable moments. Thank you for being a part of this amazing community that we have created together. Cheers to the next 15 years!
Exactly a week from today, I’ll be a half-marathoner. I believe a lot in positive affirmations. So, yes, it’s happening! Whether I run or walk or crawl or fly (or go on a medical stretcher), I’ll be at the finish line of the Philly Love Run 2017 this Sunday. Now that I’m in Taper Ville, I seem to have a lot of free time for reflections. It all takes me back to September 2016. I had been trying to take up running for at least a year and a half.
I’ve been running for about 7 years now. I started running with Charm City Run in a 5K training group. I consider myself an educated runner. I am also the mother of a special needs young man. My son, Mike, has a genetic syndrome and is missing an elastin gene. He used to often be seen walking with his hand supporting his lower back. He was uncomfortable and looked it.
About five years ago I was looking for a running group to train with for a half marathon. I stumbled upon a new running store in Annapolis, MD, Charm City Run. At the time, I was simply excited to have a focused group to train with for a particular race. Little did I know that what I had signed up for would lead to the creation of amazing friendships!
Happy 2017! We are excited for another year filled with walking, running, racing and reaching goals together. Our staff set a few running and racing goals for the coming year. We hope these inspire you to set your own; we are excited to help you reach new finish lines, run more miles and enjoy walks with friends and family. So let us know what you what to achieve this year! Share your own running and racing goals for 2017 with us in the comments below!
