When we arrived in Austin, TX, 13 years ago, we discovered Run-Tex. It was and still is a magical place, where people go to talk, families gather, and a good vibe is in the air. During our years in Austin, we would travel back to the Charm City for holidays and go running at the NCR Trail. Everytime out, Kara would say to me, Baltimore needs a Run-Tex. I would in turn do anything to change the subject.
I met Donnie O'Neal, a longtime Run-Texan, in one of the marathon training groups and started to explore the idea of Charm City Run with him. We would meet first thing in the morning and have two-hour coffees. He would challenge my assumptions and offer ideas, but never discourage me.
I asked Paul Carrozza, Run-Tex's owner if I could work there to learn the business, and Paul said "Sure". Is that unbelievable in today's world? No money, no fees, no franchise cut, just "Sure". Please understand that there is no Charm City Run without Run-Tex, Donnie O'Neal, or Paul Carrozza.
